The Townsville Game Fishing Club (T.G.F.C.) was first established in the mid 70’s and reformed in 1979 with Calvin Tilley as the president. The T.G.F.C. actively promotes and supports Tag and Release.

The Objectives of the T.G.F.C. are as follows:

Townsville has arguable the best and most consistent light tackle season on the east coast of Australia. The season for black marlin commences in May and continues through until November. Sailfish are available all year round. Heavy tackle fishing for black and blue marlin is available all year off the Townsville trench and outer reefs.

The T.G.F.C. is not only about fishing for records, with over 200 active members, social events of the club are many and varied. These have included everything from gala dinners at Jupiter’s, B.B.Q’s at the barra farm to the infamous cricket match at Peter Faust Dam.

The club designs and prides itself on its versatility, catering for all aspects of game fishing, from casting poppers out of a 10ft tinny for trevally to fishing wide for blues.

T.G.F.C. has conducted the premier light tackle tournament of the North since 1983. It is without doubt one of the best and is the longest continuous running light tackle tournament in Nth. Queensland and with many prize categories catering for both large and small boats.

The club meets for its monthly meeting at the Townsville Yacht Club, Plume Street, on the 1st Thursday of each month at 7.30pm unless otherwise noted in the Club Calendar.

Our monthly comp is the following weekend.

We as a club welcome new members and current members are more than willing to share their local knowledge, information and assist in any way possible to help you to enjoy fishing our waters.
